Genesis describes creation beginning with “the deep”, formless waters covered in darkness, waiting for the Spirit of God to move upon them. This image is more than a story of the earth. It is a mirror of you.

The Deep Within: What Does It Really Mean?
The concept of the deep inside goes beyond just philosophy or spirituality. It’s a space at the core of our being where everything is in waiting, creativity, and intuition.
Inside every person is a deep within, a place of mystery and potential, vast and unformed. It is the silent foundation of your being.
Your Body, Your Living Waters: The Science and Wonder
The body is made mostly of water, around 70 percent and this is not a coincidence. Water is the perfect medium for vibration, resonance, and spiritual movement. Just as the Spirit moved upon the waters of the earth, the Spirit moves upon the waters inside you and you awaken to the truth that you are already a vessel of Spirit. Every ripple, every vibration, is touched by the Creator.
Dr. Masaru Emoto’s experiments even showed that water responds to words, intention, and emotion. I never really thought about how much that matters until I learned more about water itself. In the physical sense, water makes everything in the body flow; cells get nutrients, waste moves out, energy travels, and so on.
There’s a deep connection to spirituality here, too. Dr. Masaru Emoto’s research on water crystals is pretty wild: he found that water “listens” and changes shape based on words or intentions. Some folks are skeptical, but I think it’s a cool idea to see our bodies as vessels that literally carry energy, thoughts, and emotion where even Spirit moves.
When I take a few minutes to imagine the water inside me, gently moving as I breathe or think, things get clearer. If water carries information, then taking care of the inner waters, with positive habits, calming rituals, or even just mindful drinking, ends up being a way to honour. It is witnessing the miracle that is my body.
This awareness of the body’s internal rivers isn’t just poetic, it’s deeply practical. Small changes, like drinking an extra glass of water or pausing to breathe deeply, can create a ripple effect of well-being throughout the day.
Over time, these habits can make us feel more present, energized, and connected, both to ourselves and others.

How to Notice Your Inner Waters: Small Steps Matter
Digging into the deep within gets easier with practice and patience. There are a few simple things to do and these are fully discussed in the manual, You Are That I Am.
Creative Potential: What Emerges from the Deep?
The best part of connecting with your deep within is what starts to come forward. In the creation story, light comes out of darkness, and I see this reflected in the “aha” moments or breakthroughs that arrive unexpectedly after time spent reflecting or resting.
When I let myself explore that inner space, I usually find ideas, solutions, or even a new sense of peace bubbling up on their own.
Out of “the deep,” light was born. Out of your deep, creativity, healing, and peace can be born too. To discover your deep is to rediscover the source of your life, the point where Spirit and matter meet.
Listening Is Key
The deep within isn’t loud; it’s more like a whisper or a gentle wave. I find that making space to just listen, not to chase solutions or “fix myself,” but to be still, makes all the difference.
At first, it feels like nothing is happening, but over time, things start to shift. Slowly, I start to pick up on subtle insights or changes in my mood, which are signs that real movement is happening beneath the surface.
Staying Present
It’s pretty common for the mind to wander into worries, to-do lists, or daydreams. If I notice this happening during a “deep within” practice, I gently bring myself back, maybe by focusing on the sensation of breath moving through my body, or the feel of water in my hands.
This helps me land in the present moment, where the inner waters feel more accessible. With enough practice, bringing myself back gets easier, and what once felt unreachable gradually becomes familiar ground.
Frequently Asked Questions
Question: How do I know if I’m actually connecting with the deep within?
Answer: If you notice subtle shifts in how you feel, think, or relate to others, something is changing. Sometimes it’s just a softer mood or a better sense of your own needs.
Question: Is there a right or wrong way to practice water meditation?
Answer: There’s no single “correct” method.
Question: What does Dr. Masaru Emoto’s research mean for my everyday life?
Answer: Emoto’s work suggests that intention matters, even thoughts and words can shape how we experience life. Treating your inner dialogue with gentleness may positively affect your body and spirit, which is pretty encouraging overall.
Practical Ways to Honour Your Inner Waters
Taking care of your inner waters isn’t about being perfect; it’s more about steady effort. Here are some things I do that help nourish my deep within:
- Stay Hydrated: It’s basic, but drinking enough water each day supports both physical and emotional balance.
- Create Mini Processes: Lighting a candle, playing gentle music, or even just pausing for three slow breaths can turn a busy moment into something sacred.
- Seek Out Stillness
- Notice the Small Shifts:

There’s a lot of power in bringing attention to the deep within. Whether it’s for creativity, calm, healing, or a sense of spiritual connection, exploring your inner waters can bring quiet clarity. This is an ongoing adventure, and each small step counts more than you might think.
Even on days when nothing seems to happen, trust that your attention is making a difference.
